Florida — Key Largo, United States
A classic spur-and-groove reef inside the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and one of the most visited reefs in the Keys. Coral ridges rise from sand channels in 3–12 m of water and shelter large schools of grunts and snapper, moray eels, nurse sharks, sea turtles and colourful angelfish. Mooring buoys protect the reef and make for easy, shallow boat dives.
Access & safety: Use the sanctuary mooring buoys — anchoring on the reef is prohibited. Currents can pick up along the outer edge; plan dives with your operator.
